I am amazed at the faith of the men and women of God described all through the Scriptures. In today’s text is a prophet of God telling his servant who cannot perceive with his natural ability, that though they are surrounded by their enemies, says, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” What a supernatural event; Elisha able to see countless numbers of warriors and their chariots of fire, ready to do battle on his behalf and his servant.
Many in Jesus’ time were not satisfied with all the miracles, healings, and rising of the dead, whom they saw with their own eyes; they still asked Him for signs. In Matthew 12: 39: Jesus says, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign.” What they saw with their eyes was not what they wanted to see. Imagine, people delivered from bondage, the lame, the blind, the leper, the dumb, even the dead raised.
1 John 11: 40: Jesus says, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you would see the glory of God?” It is much like putting the cart before the horse. Jesus says, “Believe and you will see,” and man says, “Show me (something else), and I will believe.” In Romans 1: 16b: we read, “The Gospel is the Power of God for Salvation to everyone who believes,” and in verse 17b: “the righteous man shall live by faith.” And in Chapter 4: 16a: it says, “for this reason it is by faith, that it might be in accordance with Grace, in order that the Promise might be certain (sure).”
Everyone from any walk of life has the same opportunity through faith; this is the true justice of our loving God. Jesus says in John 6: 29: “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He has sent.”
Dearest Holy Lord Jesus: thank You so much for allowing us the same privilege as anyone else. You didn’t make Salvation so unattainable that we would be left out. The simple faith of a child ignites Your Power to embrace their resolve to make You their Lord and Savior. Come by Your Holy Spirit today, and strengthen all those with a broken and contrite heart. Soften as well, the hearts who would want to make sight a prerequisite to faith. I am so thankful that You are mindful that we are but dust. Psalm 103: 14. Glory to You alone!
