The song, “I’m my Beloved and He is mine, His banner over me is Love,” came to mind as I thought about the covering that we have in God, when we seek refuge in Him through Jesus. The Lord goes to great lengths all through the Scriptures to convey to His people the blessings and protection that are theirs in Him.
In Genesis 7: 1: it says, “Then the Lord spoke to Noah, “Enter the Ark, you and all your household; for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time.” Here we see from earliest times, that faith in God (righteousness) brought the protection of God. In Romans 3: 26: it says, “for the demonstration, I say, of His (God’s) righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the Justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Romans 11: 5: says, “In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice.”
Ephesians 1: 5 + 13b: says, “He (God) predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,” In verse 19a: we read, “and what is the surpassing greatness of His Power toward us who believe,”
In John 15: 5 – 6: Jesus speaks very hard words for anyone to hear, He says, “I am the Vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.”
Dearest Holy Lord Jesus: thank you so much for the mantle of Your Love upon Your servants today. May Your Holy Word cause us to tremble before You at the awareness that apart from You, we are defenseless and powerless. Encourage our hearts to remain firm in our faith until we see You Face to face. Glory to You alone!
