I remember distinctly, as if it were a few moments ago, one night getting up to meditate on God’s Word. I was troubled about what seems to be so trivial now, but very real at the time. The Lord led me to this verse above, and as I composed myself before Him to accept the situation as it was, and began to praise Him, He turned it into a song, which has since blessed me and countless others. It has been several years since, and I find this song, “My soul waits in silence,” particularly, carries me to complete surrender to the Lord’s will, every time I hear it. The original situation has fluctuated through the years, but the Lord has enabled me repeatedly to refocus my eyes upon Him.
There are many ways that I can wait on the Lord, but to wait in silence, has to be the ultimate discipline. The urge is in all of us to be impatient, to complain, murmur, and sometimes even get frustrated and angry, when we do not see the things which we have prayed for come our way. Sometimes, the greatest to overcome is a sense of giving up that seems to invade even the space where we walk.
In Zephaniah 3: 6b, says, “Do not be afraid, 0 Zion; Do not let your hands fall limp.” 2 Chronicles 15: 7, says, “But you, be strong and do not lose courage (do not let your hands drop), for there is a reward for your work.” The time between the moment we prayed, and the time we receive the answer, is the trial of our faith.
In 1 Peter 1: 7, says, “that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Silence is also a Powerful position that I must take before the Lord when I am misunderstood, unjustly criticized, and even falsely accused. It is the position Jesus took before His accusers, in which He asks me to follow.
1 Peter 2: 19 + 21 + 23, says, “For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a man bears up (silently) under sorrows when suffering unjustly; For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His footsteps; and (Jesus) while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.”
Dearest Holy Lord Lord Jesus: thank You so much that as far back as I can remember, I can see Your awesome faithfulness to me. Thank You for all the answered prayers, and thank You as well for the staying and keeping Power of the Holy Spirit, which enable me to bear up silently in the difficult places of life. May you be greatly glorified today through the silent suffering of those who seek refuge in You. Glory to You alone!
