An expanded form of this verse reads, “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind, (both its inclination and its character) is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” Here we see plainly that where we choose our mind to focus is directly related to the measure of peace we will know in our lives. If we have our mind stayed, fixed on, or residing in the Lord, we are assured through this Word of absolute continuous peace. It is like the pendulum of a clock; if we choose to side with the Spirit of God, or swing over to the flesh with the cares of this world. It is a constant personal choice.
