An amplified version of this verse says, “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, (and) for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s Will and thought, purpose, and action). Verse 17: finishes the sentence saying, “So that the man of God may be adequate complete and proficient, well-fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” What an amazing insight into the great gift given to us into the purpose of the Word of God. We see clearly that it is a gift to the man of God (one who has submitted to God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ), so that he may be trained in righteousness (to be in right standing with God, what is pleasing to the Lord) in all aspects of God’s profitable intentions for his life. The Word teaches, reproves, and corrects to keep us aligned with God’s Will.
Ephesians 6: 17: says, “And take the helmet of Salvation and the Sword that the Holy Spirit wields (with Power and authority), which is the Word of God”. The word of God is the Sword which the Holy Spirit uses with God’s Power and authority on behalf of those who choose to walk in right standing with God through faith in Jesus Christ.
John 1: 1 – 4 + 12 – 14 + 16 – 17: says, “In the beginning (before all time) was the Word (Christ Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was present originally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him (Jesus the Word of God), and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. But as many as received Him (welcomed Him), to them He gave the right (power, privilege) to become the children of God, that is to those who believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His Name, who owe their birth neither to blood nor to the will of the flesh nor the will of man, but to God (they are born of God!). And the Word (Jesus Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and dwelt (tabernacled) among us; and we beheld (actually saw) His Glory (His honor, His majesty), such Glory as the only begotten Son (receives) from the Father, full of Grace (favor, lovingkindness) and truth. For of His fullness (abundance) we have all received (were supplied with), and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.”
1 John 1: 3 – 4: tells us, “What we have seen and (ourselves) heard, we are also telling you, so that you too may realize and enjoy fellowship as partners and partakers with us. And (this) fellowship that we have (which is a distinguishing mark of Christians) is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah). And these things we write that our joy may be made complete (in seeing you included). And this is the message we have heard from Him (Jesus), and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”
Dearest Holy Lord Jesus: what joy unspeakable and full of Glory we have in reading the truth of Your Word. Come by Your Holy Spirit, and wield Your Holy Word all over the earth into the hearts of men who do not know the greatness of Your gift of Life in Christ Jesus, which You are offering to all; that they may choose the Glory of being a child of God, rather than linger in the prisons of slavery to sin. Glory to you alone!
