2 Samuel 22: 47: “The Lord lives, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be God, the Rock of my salvation, the God who executes vengeance for me.”

Giselle's Devotional, by Giselle.

Here is David proclaiming Praise and declaring that the Lord lives. He declares this after the Lord has brought him victory over his enemies. You would think that when God anoints a person to be King such as David was, that he would have known bliss on earth. But from the moment David was anointed by the Prophet Samuel, he was hurled into a life of conflict like very few have ever known.

His brothers disdained him, King Saul pursued him to kill him, he hid in caves, people mocked him, and would not acknowledge his anointing, and his own son rose up against him to destroy him. These are only samples of the things he had to overcome. What fortitude God gave him, to be able to continue in His strength. In all opposing forces which came against him, there is one common thread; all were defeated.

Jesus says in Mark 13: 13, “And you shall be hated by all on account of My Name, but he who endures to the end, he shall be saved. We do not often want to think about the vengeance of God, because the world has a picture of a God that is always loving; all the time, for all the people. As I read more and more the word of God, it is plain to see that God’s Love and Mercy are there in abundance, but I would be remiss if I did not see the judgments and the vengeance of God, as well.

From Genesis, to especially Revelations, there is a place given to God’s wrath. I often feel like cringing when I read about Ananias and Sapphira, in Acts Chapter 5, but, it is written for the purpose of the fear of the Lord for all who would want to bear the name of “followers of Jesus.” It was a simple agreement to lie about something very trivial, but it cost them their lives. It is of the utmost importance that I realize that Jesus lives, hears, sees, and feels the pain of those who take refuge in Him.

In Zechariah 2: 8: says, “For thus says the Lord of host, ” After glory He has sent against those which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye.” Romans 10: 30 + 31: says, “For we know Him who said, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, The Lord will judge His people. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Psalms 92: 7: says, “That when the wicked sprouted up like grass, and all who did iniquity flourished, it was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.

Dearest Holy Lord Jesus: thank You for the sobering Words which we read today. Thank You for allowing us to understand what it is You require of us, and also to receive Your wisdom concerning the ways in which You would have us walk, in the Fear of the Lord. Please forgive us if we have offended You in any way. I pray for all those who hate your servants because of You, and I ask for their salvation, no matter what the cost. Above all, 0 Lord, keep all those who take refuge in You from all deception and error, that they might not fall into Your displeasure. Open our eyes, 0 Lord, that we may see according to Your Truth, and not according to what we think may be right. Glory to You alone!
