An expanded version of this verse says, “Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap in accordance to mercy and lovingkindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of Salvation upon you.” The Lord speaks to us further in Isaiah 55: 6 – 8: telling us, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are My ways your ways,” declares the Lord. For as the Heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than you ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Here we see from the Lord’s perspective a direct link between a person’s wicked action, and his being wicked, and a man’s unrighteous or evil thoughts, and his being unrighteous. Hosea 6: 3 + 6: says, “Yes, let us press on to know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord (to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him).
