This verse allows us a window into the depths of the knowledge of God, as He is able to appraise the very words of our mouths, and even the thoughts of our hearts. David the Psalmist acknowledges his personal responsibility and awareness, that he is answerable for his own behavior before a Mighty and Holy God. We are also confronted with the personal choice one has with the conversations that come out of one’s mouth. Psalm 119: 9 + 11 + 105: says, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy Word”. Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee. Thy word is a Lamp to my feet, and a Lamp to my path.” In these verses we have the answer to how our words and meditations may be pleasing to the Lord; by having God’s Word live within our heart. Jesus expands on this subject in Matthew 12: 34b – 37: saying, “For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man out of his good treasure brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of his evil treasure what is evil. And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the Day of Judgment.
