What a tremendous loss for a father to lose the youngest of his three sons, and what an eternal impact Abraham’s youngest brother Haran’s death was to have for billions to this day. I can imagine that prior to his passing away, that life was going on as usual; they had married and had children, and just like today, were busy with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. But something happened to Terah, Abraham’s father, after his son died, as in verse 31 tells us, “And Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife, and they went forth together to go from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan: but when they got to Haran (town), they settled there. So it is with countless people who have gone into completely different directions, after tragedy struck, to impact their generation for Eternity; some for good and some, sad to say, not so good. It was here, after the death of his father, who had taken him away from his familiar surroundings that Abraham first heard from the Lord. How often do we also find the riches of God’s favor and Presence, after He permits us to be found in a very narrow place, usually filled with tears and pain?
