The heading of this Psalm is called, “The Righteous and the wicked contrasted.” It is a great Psalm to give us very clear insight as to whom “the Lord” attributes right standing, or not. It goes without saying that the Lord, through His Word, has always made an absolute distinction and separation between the two. Verses 1 – 3: say clearly, “How blessed (Happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not after the counsel of the ungodly (following their advice, their plans and purposes) nor stands (submissive and inactive) in the path of sinners, nor sits down (to relax and rest) where the scornful (and the mockers) gather. But his delight and desire are in the Law of the Lord, and on His Law (instructions and teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and night. In verses 4 – 6: it specifically says, “The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Here we see inevitable consequences to those who choose to walk after the counsel of their own ways. They will not be part of the blessings bestowed upon those who seek refuge in, and who are obedient to, God.
