A more elaborated version of this verse reads, “Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside). (He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God) For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.” The following  two verses 8 – 9 tell us, “For the one who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) shall from the flesh reap corruption, decay, and ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the (Holy) Spirit shall from the (Holy) Spirit reap Eternal Life. And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing good (right), for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not grow weary, loosen and relax our courage and faint.” Here we see that there is also an earthly harvest that comes with the choices we make. Many of us who have had the joy of gardening, know that what we sow needs to be tended to carefully, and with a strong determination to work at the process from beginning to end. First the soil has to be turned, the weeds pulled and cleared, areas for sowing, the planting, the watering, some seeds will not grow unless they are covered for a period of time, tending till it grows, the pruning, more weeding; then the harvest, and so much…
