The remainder of the verse in 21 says; “Keep yourselves in the Love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.” This verse, like no other, describes the narrowness of one’s personal responsibility in the midst of surrounding ungodliness, as is written in the Chapter. No one else is going to do it for us. It shows our total dependency upon the Holy Spirit as the Builder of one’s faith, through the obedience of the call to continuous prayer in Him. Jesus foreknew that it would be impossible for us to conquer in any other way but to have the Holy Spirit abiding directly within our lives. In John 14: 16 + 17: Jesus tells us, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby) that He may remain with you forever- that is the Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you. And in John 16: 13 + 14: Jesus says, “But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth; He will not speak on His Own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine, and shall disclose it to you.” In these verses we can see…
