In an expanded version of the latter part of this verse it says, “I dwell on the High and Holy Place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent (bruised with sorrow for sin).”
In Isaiah 30: 18 – 19b: we hear the Lord’s yearning for His creation to turn to Him with all their heart, saying, “Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of Justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him. You will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you.”
Isaiah 40: 11 + 29: demonstrates the gentle care of the Lord for His own, saying, “Like a Shepherd He will tend His flock, In His Arm He will gather the lambs, and carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who has no might He increases power.”
Jesus reiterates this yearning from His compassionate call to all who would come, found in Matthew 11: 28 – 30: which says, “Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden (overburdened), and I will give you rest (ease and relieve and refresh your souls). Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble (meek, lowly) in heart; and you shall find rest (relief, and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy (wholesome, useful, good; not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious and pleasant) and my load is light and easy to be borne, bear).”
Jesus says in Luke 10: 21: At that time He rejoiced greatly in the Spirit, and said, “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes, yes, Father, for thus it was well-pleasing in Thy Sight.”
Dearest Holy Lord Jesus: thank You so very much that in Your overwhelming greatness, You have Eyes to see, and Ears to hear the slightest whimper, from those who cry out to Thee.
