An amplified version of this verse says, “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, (and) for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s Will and thought, purpose, and action). Verse 17: finishes the sentence saying, “So that the man of God may be adequate complete and proficient, well-fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” What an amazing insight into the great gift given to us into the purpose of the Word of God. We see clearly that it is a gift to the man of God (one who has submitted to God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ), so that he may be trained in righteousness (to be in right standing with God, what is pleasing to the Lord) in all aspects of God’s profitable intentions for his life. The Word teaches, reproves, and corrects to keep us aligned with God’s Will. Ephesians 6: 17: says, “And take the helmet of Salvation and the Sword that the Holy Spirit wields (with Power and authority), which is the Word of God”. The word of God is the Sword which the Holy Spirit uses with God’s Power and authority on behalf of those who choose to walk in right standing with God through faith in Jesus Christ.
